P & H MinePro, Crane Door System

WF worked with P & H MinePro to design, supply, and install two 100 tonne cranes and a crane door system for its Ft. McMurray Facility in 2009. In 2010, P & H planned to construct a similar facility at its Mesa, Arizona, facility and asked WF to design and manufacture its crane door.

Why WF was chosen

Following up on the success of the Ft. McMurray project, P&H chose WF as a preferred supplier. WF was also one of the few manufacturers with the knowledge and experience to design such a door.

Project Challenges countered with WF Solutions

  1. Budget Constraints: The owner felt there was great value in enabling cranes to move outside of the building to load and unload materials. This enabled manufacturing to continue inside while materials were loaded (or unloaded) outside. Due to cost restraints, WF devised a manner to ship sections of the door on trailers, enabling the contractor’s building erectors. This eliminated the need to send an installation crew and saved on travel charges. WF sent a supervisor to oversee the installation.
  2. Design Challenges: An 80×40 foot framed opening presents a unique set of challenges, as a door of that size must handle considerable wind load while remaining rigid. WF considered this while ensuring the weight remained optimal while falling within the building’s design parameters. Due to the construction strategy, on-site bolting was used, with no field welding required.

Testimonial

WF Steel & Crane has exceeded our expectations on partnering with Russel Metals on the development of our greenfield site by supplying us with seven Class D overhead bridge cranes and two smaller floor mounted gantry cranes and a crane way system.

WF has been the most price competitive crane company. Our previous WF cranes built with GH components have performed well over the last 10 years, which left us with the confidence to continue with the partnership.  WF’s in house engineering team has proven to be very flexible and understanding throughout the process, which added to our confidence.  It is also a nice addition when the crane manufacturer has an in house service department.  WF Steel & Cranes has a team of service technicians who are very knowledgeable and professional when it comes to their work and their safety.  When the technicians leave the site there is no mess, which can’t always be said for other overhead crane service companies.

I would highly recommend WF Steel & Crane to anyone has a need for their services.
