Project Description
Linde plc signed a long-term agreement to supply clean hydrogen and industrial gases to the Dow Path2Zero Project. The hydrogen produced at the facility will help reduce emissions from Dow’s operations while supporting the net-zero design of the new complex. In addition to serving Dow, Linde’s facility is expected to supply clean hydrogen and industrial gases to other industrial customers throughout Alberta.
Located in Alberta’s Industrial Heartland near Edmonton, the project represents a major investment in low-carbon industrial infrastructure and clean energy development.
WF’s First Collaboration with Linde
This project marked WF’s first collaboration with Linde. Prior to contract award, Linde conducted a comprehensive audit of WF’s operations in 2025. The audit team was highly impressed with WF’s manufacturing facilities, engineering expertise, quality systems, and project execution capabilities, leading to WF being selected as the successful crane supplier.

Scope of Supply
WF was responsible for the engineering, design, manufacture, and delivery of two large explosion-proof overhead crane systems designed for hazardous hydrogen service environments.
70 Metric Tonne Explosion-Proof Overhead Crane
Classification: Class I, Zone 2, Group IIB + H₂, T3
Key project highlights:
- 70 metric tonne main hoist capacity with a 5 metric tonne auxiliary hoist.
- The largest explosion-proof crane capacity ever supplied by WF.
- Both main hoists supplied by GH Cranes & Components.
- Due to the heavy lifting requirements, a suitable two-speed explosion-proof hoist motor was not available.
- WF provided a custom solution utilizing:
- Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) controlled hoist motor.
- Special explosion-proof electrical enclosures to house drive and control components.
- Bridge and trolley motions were also equipped with VFD control for improved operational precision, smoother acceleration, and deceleration.
35 Metric Tonne Explosion-Proof Overhead Crane
Classification: Class I, Zone 2, Group IIB + H₂, T3
Key project highlights:
- 35 metric tonne main hoist capacity.
- Main hoist supplied by GH Cranes & Components.
- Main hoist equipped with a two-speed motor and contactor based control system.
- Electrical controls housed within certified explosion-proof enclosures.
- Bridge and trolley motions were equipped with VFD control for improved operational precision, smoother acceleration, and deceleration.
